Doctor Who and Wings 3D

I was unable to post last week but it was for happy reasons!  One of those reasons was that I spent Monday and Tuesday evenings celebrating David Tennant.  It was a good week!

Typo on the screen but Tennant looks good!  :)

For my fellow Whovians, I thought I'd share a little bit about the 2 night event.  A while back, I read that Fathom Events was going to show two Doctor Who episodes that starred David Tennant (the 10th Doctor) in select theaters.  The ticket for it included a screening of the documentary Wings the next day which is narrated by him.  My husband and I enjoyed watching the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special on the big screen last year so we decided to go!

Before the episodes started they had David Tennant/Doctor Who trivia on the screen along with a countdown for the show to start.

The two episodes were "Rise of the Cybermen" and "Age of Steel."  We have those episodes on DVD but it's a different experience when you get to watch it on a big screen and with great sound!  There was a clip of David Tennant introducing the episode before it started and then a recently recorded interview with him about it afterwards.

Each ticket was around $15 and it included the second night which was a 3D screening of Wings produced by BBC Earth.  I thought it was a great deal considering that seeing anything in 3D costs around $15 or more on it's own.  We didn't know much about Wings beforehand but it was an interesting documentary.  There was so much about birds that I didn't know about and the 3D was really amazing!  They had trivia and facts on the screen before this movie started too.

I imagine this Disneyland duck family would've given Wings 3D two thumbs up!  They really want to be in the sequel.  ;-)

The Doctor Who/Wings 3D event was a a great way to spend a couple evenings or as the 10th Doctor would say- "brilliant!"!  I hope Fathom Events does more Doctor Who screenings.  I definitely would go again!

  1. Cool, I bet it is so fun to see Doctor Who in a theater. 2 nights for 15 is a great price. I hope they do something like this again. I need to pay better attention to fathom events. That duck family lives in a pretty special place:)

    1. I agree- those are probably the happiest ducks on earth! :) I need to keep an eye on fathom too- I was lucky that I randomly saw something about it! Will try to post about it if I notice any other Doctor Who events on there. :)

  2. I hadn't heard of this, BUT I did watch this cool mini-series on PBS with David Tennant this month. I forgot what it was called but he played a lawyer trying to prove that the guy that we the audience saw kill his pregnant wife actually did it. It was really good! I know he has a new pilot for Fox in the fall called Gracepoint. It's weird to hear him with an American accent. lol Anyway, how cool that you got to see two episodes on the big screen. I have yet to do a Fathom Event, but I always see the previews and think we should do one and just never do.

  3. P.S. I just remembered what the show I watched was called. It was called The Escape Artist and it aired as part of the Masterpiece Mysteries series on PBS.
