The Portal Shuts Down...
Long lines and huge crowds mark end of DCA night-time party.
On Sunday, April 15th, the ElecTronica portal closed for the last time after a lengthy stay at Disney California Adventure park. The night-time dance party will eventually be replaced by the new "Mad T Party," a similar Alice in Wonderland themed dance party on June 15th.
The last night of ElecTronica featured a performance by Laser Man and two DJs. The final evening also featured long lines for Glowjitos and Digitinis at the End of the Line Club and the bar by the Animation Building.
The crowds didn't seem to mind how busy the party was as they danced (I even saw some crowd surfing) through the night. One bad byproduct of the large crowds was the effect they had on the cutoff time for the bars. Both bar areas had to cut off the lines a full hour prior to the 10pm end time. Traditionally last call and the line cut off was only half an hour prior to the park closing. Also, on Sunday and Saturday the two bars had trouble keeping Glowjitos in stock (our favorite!).
The last few minutes came and went quickly and the end of the night was well staged. The DJs played one more song for the last time and then a countdown clock ticked off the last ten seconds until they "terminated" the ElecTronica program for the last time. After the countdown the lights went out and the party was over.

Aww! I'm so glad you guys got to go for the final evenings and that you managed to enjoy it on several occasions. I really liked playing air hockey inside Flynn's Arcade and I'll always cherish getting my dance on with my lovely DL Bride friends there too! :)

P.S. The CM with the silver wig, was my little sister's favorite "Aladdin" from the show in the Hyperion Theater. We wish he'd go back because the other ones pale in comparison. We just saw him in a Subway commercial too! lol

DeleteI didn't know that the CM was Aladdin! There are two CMs I've seen that play the part of Eckert (the one with the silver wig). Is the one who was Aladdin the one in the video? I wonder if he'll go back! That'd be cool!
I'm so happy my hubby took that video and those pics (I was busy dancing the whole time, haha ;) ). He did a great job! :)
I'm pretty sure the Eckert in your video is the same Aladdin my sister liked the most. We went to Electronica the weekend before and saw him and she herself confirmed that that was "her" Aladdin. I've seen him do some stuff for the Disney parks blog too so I know he'll remain a CM. I just hope he goes back to the show.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I got to see this when I was there last October. That's a great video, and it brought up good memories. My favorite part was watching everyone in my family play games in Flynn's Arcade:).
